Pueblo de Abiquiu Library All-Day Celebration 1-6 p.m.

March 14, 2010 : Pueblo de Abiquiu Library invites you to attend an all-day Read-a-thon and Draw-a-thon celebrating local author and historian Gilberto Benito Cordova. Shake off the winter chills on the first Sunday of daylight savings time and drop by the library anytime from 1pm until 6pm on Sunday, March 14^th to hear or participate in an all-day reading of Cordova’s Abiquiu & Don Cacahuate: A Folk History of a New Mexico Village plus excerpts from his dissertation on the missionazation of Abiquiu. We are inviting 20 readers to read for fifteen minutes each and 20 student and adult artists to draw for the same period. Sponsors fund each reader or artist @ $50 per participant. The Read-a-thon is a reading race that keeps our library open.

 Do you want to read? Please call the library to sign up and get a copy of your 15 minutes of text. The reading will be recorded.

 Do you want to draw during the reading?  Four different artists or students will work at the big library table during each hour of the continuous reading, drawing or making a collage on four pages of an artists’ book. The Abiquiu Book will become part of the library’s permanent collection

 Do you want to help sponsor a reader or an artist? Each reader is sponsored at $50 for the 15 minutes of reading. This donation can come from one person or from several people. Your funding supports the operations of the library.

 Can you make a matching fund to double the donations?

 Celebrate Abiquiu folk tales and history!  Provide support for the library with your sponsorships! Come in from the winter cold to enjoy a day of tasty refreshments, the company of friends and neighbors and the pleasure of reading and drawing as a way to experience our local history.
